Deputy Chairman of Xinjiang Political Consultative Conference Investigated in Office

After the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the political purge continues in China. Jin Zhizhen, Vice Chairman of the Xinjiang Political Consultative Conference of the CCP, is currently under investigation while holding office.

According to a report from the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CCP on Saturday, Jin Zhizhen, a member of the CCP Xinjiang Political Consultative Conference and Vice Chairman, is suspected of “serious violations of discipline and law” and is currently under investigation.

Public records show that Jin Zhizhen, a 55-year-old Hui ethnic minority from Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, has held various positions including Member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Xinjiang New Energy (Group) Co., Ltd., Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Xinjiang International Economic Cooperation (Group) Co., Ltd., and District Chief of Midong District in Urumqi City.

In 2018, Jin Zhizhen served as Deputy Secretary and Deputy Director of the State-owned Assets Committee of the Production and Construction Corps of Xinjiang, as well as concurrently held positions such as Deputy Secretary and Deputy Division Commander of the Sixth Division of the Corps, Deputy Secretary of the Five-Jiaqu City Committee, before becoming Deputy Secretary and Acting Governor of Changji Prefecture in November 2018. He was later elected Governor of Changji Prefecture. In January 2023, he became the Vice Chairman of the Xinjiang Political Consultative Conference and subsequently took on the role of Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the Xinjiang government.

With Jin Zhizhen falling from grace, a total of 51 senior officials at the central level have been publicly investigated by the CCP this year.

Prior to this, on October 25, after disappearing from public view for half a month, Jiang Duntao, Vice Mayor of Chongqing, was officially announced to have fallen from power, becoming the first “tiger” to be taken down since the conclusion of the Fourth Plenary Session of the CCP.
