On Wednesday, August 21, the United Center in Chicago hosted the third day of the Democratic National Convention of the United States, where many enthusiastic attendees gathered with high spirits.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Congressman Andy Kim from the 3rd Congressional District of New Jersey were interviewed by the Da Ji Yuan Media Group, discussing America’s future vision and their own sentiments.
Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania told the reporters that upholding the values of “Out of many, One” requires a commitment to American history and the future. “Out of many, One” is one of the mottos on the United States’ seal, symbolizing inclusivity and unity. Shapiro emphasized the importance of protecting our basic freedoms and recognizing that “Out of many, One” is not just about our past but also our future direction. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, the country will see this unity in the upcoming November elections.
Congressman Andy Kim of New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District, the first Korean-American Democrat in the U.S. Congress, was interviewed by reporters after his speech at the convention. He shared that he was inspired by the enthusiasm of the participants.
Kim announced his candidacy for the 2024 New Jersey Senate elections, expressing excitement about the campaign ahead. “I am very excited now, with 76 days left until election day, and I hope to successfully represent my state in the Senate,” he said.
He praised former President Obama’s speech at the convention, saying, “He allowed us to take a step back and truly consider the various challenges we face, not just politically, but also on a social level.”
Kim believes that America is ready for its first female president. “Absolutely, people here are very excited. Everyone I spoke to in my home state of New Jersey has shown incredible enthusiasm for this election,” he added.
During his brief two-minute speech at the Democratic Convention, Kim humorously shared an anecdote about bringing his sons to the Capitol, where his eldest son remarked, “I like the Capitol and I also like lowercase.” The audience erupted in laughter at this lighthearted moment.
