On Monday, February 17th, a Delta Air Lines flight had an accident while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport, resulting in 8 injuries. According to reports from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), the plane overturned during landing.
News Channel3 Now released a video showing the Delta Air Lines aircraft overturning on a snow-covered tarmac, with passengers evacuating.
Lawrence Saindon, Director of Emergency Medical Services in Peel Region, Ontario, stated that out of the eight injured individuals, one is in critical condition, while the rest have suffered mild to moderate injuries.
Toronto Pearson Airport announced that an incident occurred involving a Delta Air Lines flight arriving from Minneapolis, United States, and that emergency response teams are on-site. A statement from the airport on their website confirmed that all passengers and crew members have been located.
“We have had an incident involving an aircraft. However, we do not yet know the specifics of the accident,” said Sarah Patten, an officer with the Ontario Provincial Police in Peel Region.
“As far as I understand, the majority of passengers have safely evacuated, but we are still working to ensure the safety of individuals, hence the ongoing investigation at the scene,” Patten added.
The Toronto Pearson Airport website indicated that over forty flights, including arrivals and departures, were delayed due to the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States stated that the accident occurred during landing with 80 people on board, all of whom evacuated immediately.
The FAA also mentioned that the flight was operated by Endeavor Air.
According to the FAA, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada will be responsible for investigating the accident and providing any updates.
