Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s joint film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which was released at the end of last month, has been a continuous hit. The film, with an investment of 200 million yuan (US dollars equivalent), has recently surpassed 1.1 billion in box office sales, becoming the highest-grossing film for both actors. Reynolds took to Instagram to express his gratitude not only to the guest actors but also to Hugh Jackman, who played Wolverine, saying, “He not only fulfilled the dreams of Wolverine fans but also my own.”
On the 19th, Reynolds posted a long article on IG, reminiscing about a phone call from Hugh Jackman on August 14, 2022, saying, “I hope Wolverine makes a comeback.” Months later, he not only brought Wolverine back into the spotlight but also donned the iconic yellow suit.
Reynolds revealed, “Director Shawn Levy and I didn’t initially discuss this, but we were under immense pressure, worrying about how to integrate these characters into the Marvel universe and how to keep all our secret characters secret.”
He continued to write that when Hugh Jackman walked onto the set wearing that suit, everyone seemed to realize that something special was about to happen, “I remember thinking at the time, everything is going to be okay.” The comedic Reynolds joked, “After months of shooting, extensive editing, and post-production, as a die-hard fan, I sat in the front row to witness Wolverine’s return.”
Since their first collaboration in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” the friendship between Hugh Jackman, who portrayed Wolverine, and Ryan Reynolds, who portrayed Deadpool, has been significant. Reynolds mentioned that when they worked together in 2007’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” he was just a supporting role while Jackman was already a big star. Nonetheless, Jackman treated every crew member very kindly, “He confirmed that ‘filmmaker’ is not just a name on a movie poster. I have never seen anyone more thoughtful and considerate than Hugh Jackman; he would give everything for the people he loves, even for those he barely knows.”
“Deadpool & Wolverine” tells the story of Deadpool living a mundane life after ending his mercenary career. One day, he learns from the Time Variance Authority that his timeline is about to be destroyed. He is sent to “The Void,” the end of time, and must find the key figure, Wolverine, to embark on an exciting adventure across the universe. While busy saving the world, the two continue their banter.
Now, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has received both critical acclaim and strong box office results, with the latest box office reaching 1.147 billion dollars, breaking the previous highest-grossing records for Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy. Reynolds believes that Jackman’s return was pivotal, saying, “He not only fulfilled the dreams of Wolverine fans but also my own. He is THE X-Man.”
In response to Reynolds’ gratitude, Hugh Jackman humorously said, “I’m crying again.” Jackman cheekily added, “But still have to act until I’m 90.”
