“Deadpool and Wolverine” Box Office Exceeds 900 Million, Expected to Reach 1 Billion on Weekend

The blockbuster film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” with an investment of 200 million US dollars, released at the end of July continues to be a hot seller. As of August 7th, the global box office has surpassed 900 million dollars. It is expected to surpass Marvel’s previous films “Joker” and “Oppenheimer” and break the 1 billion dollar mark after this weekend, becoming the “highest-grossing R-rated film in global box office history.”

The first sequel of Marvel’s return to the superhero movie series “Deadpool” titled “Deadpool & Wolverine” has achieved impressive box office results shortly after its release. In just 5 days, the film officially surpassed the global total box office of 23 Marvel films, including 6 films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) such as “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” “Eternals,” and “Black Widow.”

According to Variety, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is Marvel’s another box office hit after the 2021 film “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” This film is also the highest-grossing film of director Shawn Levy and actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman among the three’s filmography.

The current overseas box office for “Deadpool & Wolverine” is 472.3 million dollars, with a North American box office of 431 million dollars. On the 7th, the overseas box office increased by 14.1 million dollars, while the North American box office increased by 9.8 million dollars. It is expected that after this weekend, the North American box office will reach towards 500 million dollars.

Furthermore, “Deadpool & Wolverine” has helped Marvel Studios achieve a significant milestone. Recently, Marvel President Kevin Feige announced that Marvel Studios’ total box office revenue has exceeded 30 billion dollars, with “Deadpool & Wolverine” contributing to this success.

Out of the 34 films released by Marvel Studios, more than 10 films have grossed over 1 billion dollars globally. It is predicted that “Deadpool & Wolverine” will soon join this list. Marvel has four films – “Avengers: Endgame” (2.7 billion dollars), “Avengers: Infinity War” (2 billion dollars), “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (1.9 billion dollars), and “The Avengers” (1.5 billion dollars) – among the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time. With the positive market outlook for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” it has the potential to enter the top 10.

This weekend’s North American box office will see a showdown between Ryan Reynolds, who portrays “Deadpool,” and Blake Lively, who cameos as “Lady Deadpool,” in a “battle of the spouses”. Blake’s new film “It Ends with Us,” based on a bestselling novel, is expected to debut with over 30 million dollars, while “Deadpool & Wolverine,” still in theaters, is projected to earn an additional 50 million dollars in weekend box office revenue. Ryan and Blake are poised to dominate the North American box office together.
