Dalian Ocean World Fire Drill Provokes Beluga Whale to Spray Water and Extinguish Fire

Recently, Dalian Shengya Ocean World conducted a fire drill, but to everyone’s surprise, before the training could even begin, a beluga whale put out the fire, drenching the firefighters in the process, and then proudly surfaced to cheer. This comedic scene quickly went viral once it was shared online.

According to a report by Upstream News on April 7th, Dalian Shengya Ocean World held a fire prevention exercise before the Qingming Festival, during which firefighters were teaching staff members by the water pool how to respond to fires.

In the video footage, as the firefighters were conducting the training, a firefighter wearing a yellow helmet on the side immediately lit a small fire and picked up a water gun to simulate extinguishing the fire. However, before the firefighters could react, the beluga whale “listening in” from the water pool quickly responded by shooting out a stream of water, directly extinguishing the fire and soaking the firefighters. After putting out the fire, the beluga whale even proudly emerged and emitted a cheerful sound, leaving the firefighters bewildered by the unexpected turn of events, creating an awkward yet humorous moment.

Netizens commented, “Give the beluga whale a thumbs up,” “The beluga whale has strong safety awareness,” “So amazing,” “So cute.”

In response, Ms. Zheng, a staff member at Dalian Shengya Ocean World (alias), explained that on the afternoon of April 2nd, the training was taking place right next to the beluga whale pool, and the beluga named “Pomegranate” happened to be playing nearby. It reacted spontaneously upon seeing the flames.

With a smile, Ms. Zheng mentioned that belugas are highly intelligent; teasing them can make them squirt water, and they exhibit similar reactions when sensing danger.

“The original plan was for the firefighters to teach the Ocean World staff how to use fire extinguishers,” Ms. Zheng said. “But unexpectedly, before the training began, the fire was already extinguished by the beluga whale.” She added, “After the drill, the firefighters were talking to us, and ‘Pomegranate’ even sprayed water towards them. It’s very mischievous, just like a child.”
