Recently, in the state of Alabama in the United States, a real estate agent had a sudden idea to shave off his iconic long-lived goatee. To his surprise, his children were shocked and burst into tears upon seeing his new look. Their humorous and innocent reactions quickly went viral on the internet.
Austin Matthews from Gadsden, Alabama, a father of three, shared with the Epoch Times, “When I was young, one day my dad suddenly shaved his beard, and it scared us enough. So, I’ve always been curious about how my children would react to this. Recently, I finally decided to give it a try.”
In a video captured at the scene, after shaving off his beard, he intentionally walked around the house and encountered his first child, 6-year-old daughter Norah. She was initially shocked, covered her mouth, burst into tears, and eventually despondently collapsed on the bed.
Next, 2-year-old Jude discovered his father, and it was evident that he was bewildered by the sight before him. He instinctively hid behind the dressing table, even frantically grabbed a power cord trying to cover his face.
“It’s just too funny,” Austin said, “Their reactions were exactly as I expected. They have never seen me without a beard from the time they were born, and they are also not fond of interacting with strangers, so I guessed they would be a bit scared. However, this intense emotional reaction did not last long, and they quickly adapted.”
Not only that, even Austin’s wife, Jessica Matthews, found it difficult to accept her suddenly transformed husband, as the video footage shows her staring in disbelief at the “familiar yet unfamiliar” husband before her.
Austin mentioned that she initially “couldn’t accept it” because she had always liked his beard, but like the children, she also quickly “adapted.” Sadly, the reaction of their 4-year-old son Finn was not captured by the camera.
Following the incident, this father of three couldn’t contain his excitement and immediately uploaded the funny video he captured to social media. As expected, the video quickly went viral, garnering over 50 million views within days.
However, the father emphasized that he still prefers having a beard. He said, “The beard will grow back quickly, and I won’t be shaving again in the future!”
