Councilwoman Zhuang Wenyi assists Brooklyn residents in applying for Coney Island cooperative apartments.

New York City council member Susan Zhuang announced to residents of the Brooklyn community on June 3 that applications are now open for the Mitchell-Lama housing project lottery at the Amalgamated Warbasse Houses cooperative apartment complex located at 2800 West 5th Street on Coney Island. The project will randomly select 250 individuals to be placed on a waiting list. Zhuang urged those in need to apply as soon as possible.

As affordable housing in New York City becomes increasingly scarce, Zhuang emphasized the importance of all eligible residents submitting their applications promptly to strive for the opportunity to move in. She reiterated that her office can assist those in need with the application process and urged residents to seize the opportunity.

The one-bedroom apartment currently available for application is suitable for one to two occupants, with monthly maintenance costs ranging from $988.85 to $1,596.21. Qualified families must have an annual income between $94,416 and $172,699.

The building offers several amenities including air conditioning, gas, electricity, senior citizen activities, playground, laundry facilities, fitness center, storage rooms, and outdoor parking, as well as close proximity to the F-line subway station for convenient transportation.

The deadline for applications is July 2, 2025. Mailed applications must be postmarked by June 25, and online applications must be completed by 5:00 pm on July 2.
