Last summer, when Trader Joe’s began selling Korean-style seaweed rice rolls (Kimbap), it caused a frenzy. Due to the continued demand, Trader Joe’s had to implement a restriction on the number of items each customer could purchase at some stores.
This is a frozen, microwaveable Korean-style sushi filled with vegetables, kimchi, and tofu. It was a hit as soon as it was launched, leading to the product being constantly sold out at Trader Joe’s in the Bay Area and across the country.
Now, Costco has also joined the trend. The Korean company Hanwoomul, which produces the product, announced on Instagram on April 3 that their frozen seaweed rice rolls have landed in Costco stores across the United States.
Some eagle-eyed customers have already noticed that Costco has introduced a large-sized version of the seaweed rice rolls, which are available on the frozen shelves of Costco.
The product is made with deep-fried tofu and vegetables. A pack contains 6 rolls, eight ounces, priced at $18.79, making each roll $3.13.
Those who have tried it say that it is not only delicious but also cheaper than Trader Joe’s version, which sells for $3.99 per roll.
After a quick 2.5-minute microwave heating, the rice rolls are ready to eat, with customers saying, “The texture of the rice is very good.”
For Bay Area residents who are eager to purchase this popular product but are not willing to take the risk at Trader Joe’s or Costco, they can find them at Asian grocery chain stores like 99 Ranch Market and H Mart, which usually also sell frozen seaweed rice rolls.
