Costco recalls power banks due to overheating risk.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on June 20 that Costco, a large chain retailer, will be recalling portable chargers (also known as power banks or mobile power sources) sold by the company due to risks of overheating and potential fire hazards.

The recall affects three models of the myCharge POWER HUB All-In-One 10,000mAh portable charger: AO10FK-A, AO10FK-B, and AO10FK-C. Included in the recall are models with date codes ending in “21” and “22”, as well as date codes ending in “23” with the codes 0123, 0923, 1523, and 1723. These portable chargers were exclusively sold at Costco stores between January 2022 and November 2023, with a total of over 550,000 units sold.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, these portable chargers are at risk of overheating and igniting during the charging process. The commission has received 120 reports of overheating incidents, two of which resulted in fires causing approximately $165,000 in property damage. Consumers who have purchased these portable chargers are advised not to dispose of them in regular trash or battery recycling bins.
