On November 10, 2025, Costco, a large multinational membership-based warehouse retailer in the United States, announced last week that it is recalling nearly 1 million bottles of wine due to safety concerns.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a public notice on November 6, stating that Costco’s Kirkland Signature brand is recalling approximately 941,400 bottles of Prosecco wine. This bubbly wine is produced in Valdobbiadene, Italy, and imported by Ethica Wines company in Miami, Florida, and was sold between April and August for around $8 per bottle.
The recalled wine is bottled in green bottles with purple foil and labels. The UPC barcode is 196633883742 and the Costco item number is 1879870. These wines were sold in Costco stores in the following states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
This recall follows a recent safety notice issued by Costco, warning of a risk of breakage with the same product. In September, Costco announced that even without handling or use, the wine bottles could potentially break. There have been 10 reports of bottles breaking or shattering, resulting in one injury report.
The recall notice advises consumers who have purchased the affected Prosecco wine not to drink it. Unopened bottles should be wrapped in paper towels, placed in a plastic bag, and disposed of with regular household waste.
Consumers can contact Ethica Wines from Monday to Friday (8 am to 6 pm Eastern Time) for instructions on how to obtain a refund from Costco. Contact phone: 786-810-7132, Email: [email protected].
