This week, the membership warehouse chain store Costco in the United States announced the recall of multiple products for sale, including fitness equipment, window air conditioners, and power banks. Costco urges consumers to check the status of products in their homes.
According to a report in “News Weekly” on July 4, one of the emergency recall notices involves Danby U-shaped window air conditioners purchased between June 10, 2021, and February 2, 2022.
According to the supplier, Midea America Corp., these air conditioners have a design flaw that leads to internal water accumulation, posing a risk of mold growth. With summer approaching, if you have this type of air conditioner in your home, pay attention.
Exposure to mold can cause respiratory system illnesses and infections. Costco will provide full refunds or free repair services at all stores based on the air conditioner model. The affected air conditioner model is DAC080B6IWDB-6.
Midea America Corp. is a subsidiary of the Chinese appliance giant Midea.
Last month, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) stated in a recall list that CPSC had received at least 152 consumer reports, indicating mold accumulation in Midea air conditioning units. Among them, 17 reports mentioned that users experienced respiratory infections, allergic reactions, coughing, sneezing, or sore throats due to mold exposure.
According to the CPSC’s notice, the recalled air conditioners were sold at various retailers such as Best Buy, Costco, and Home Depot from March 2020 to May this year, with prices ranging from $280 to $500.
Due to potential issues with lithium-ion batteries, the well-known Chinese portable power bank brand Anker Innovations has issued a voluntary recall notice for multiple models of power banks.
The company stated that this recall only applies to the models of A1257 (10,000mAh, 22.5W) power banks, which are produced by the same supplier and have a lower risk of malfunction.
Customers who purchased the affected power banks can get replacements with proof of purchase.
On June 20, Anker announced the recall of over 700,000 power banks across 7 models in mainland China due to the risk of overheating or burning, advising users to stop using them immediately. On June 25, Anker also announced the recall of four power bank models in Japan.
Customers who have purchased the BowFlex 552 adjustable dumbbells from Costco are advised to stop using the product immediately due to the risk of malfunction.
The brand owner, Johnson Health Tech Trading, has issued a voluntary recall notice for the product, as reports suggest that the weight plates on the dumbbells may come off the handle during use, posing an impact hazard.
Customers can return the product to Costco for a full refund.
Additionally, Michelin is recalling some 185/60R15C specification Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric tires. These tires reportedly do not meet U.S. federal safety standards, increasing the risk of collisions. Specifically, the tread rubber may detach from the tire shoulder blocks. Customers who purchased these tires will be directed to local Michelin retailers for free replacements.
