The corruption case in the military industry of the Chinese Communist Party continues to spread, with Jiao Jige, former Party Secretary and Chairman of Hunan Aerospace Co., Ltd., falling from power after being dismissed for five months.
On January 11, 2025, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervision Commission of the CCP announced on their website that Jiao Jige was under investigation by the Aerospace Science and Industry Disciplinary Inspection and Supervision Group of the CCP and the Discipline Inspection Commission of Shaanxi Province.
Public records show that Jiao Jige, 56 years old this year, is a native of Zhengzhou, Henan Province. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in solid rocket propellant from the National University of Defense Science and Technology in 1991. He worked for a long time at China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, holding positions such as the Director of the Sixth Research Institute and Deputy Director of Unit 061.
In 2017, Jiao Jige became the Deputy General Manager of Hunan Aerospace, the General Manager in 2019, and in July 2021, he took on the roles of Party Secretary and Chairman, concurrently serving as the Director (Bureau Chief) of a certain base of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (Hunan Aerospace Administration Bureau). At the end of July last year, he was removed from the position of Party Secretary of Hunan Aerospace. The official website introduction shows that Hunan Aerospace is a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation.
Jiao Jige is also a delegate to the 20th National Congress of the CCP.
Jiao Jige is the latest high-ranking military industry figure to be publicly announced as under investigation.
Since 2023, in the purge within the CCP’s military, those under investigation include military generals and senior executives of military industry enterprises. Among them are sometimes the Chairman of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Wu Yansheng, the Deputy General Manager of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, Wang Changqing, and the former Chairman of China Aviation Industry Corporation, Tan Ruisong. Yuan Jie, the former Chairman of China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation, has disappeared after being replaced.
There are also Minister of Industry and Information Technology Jin Zhuanglong, Executive Deputy Director of the Office of the Central Committee for Military-Civil Fusion Development Lei Fanpei; former Secretary of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and current National People’s Congress Standing Committee member Xu Dazhe, all from the aerospace system, who have recently been absent from important meetings.
Former Secretary of the Mudanjiang City Committee in Heilongjiang Province Dai Shoulong and former member of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and Secretary of the Pudong New Area Committee Zhu Zhisong, who were also in the aerospace system, fell from power last year.
