Due to consecutive heavy rainfalls, multiple areas in Hunan Province have reported disasters. The train station in Changsha City is flooded, and 8 villages in Chenzhou have lost contact with the outside world. In addition, the death toll from the mudslides in Hengyang has risen to 15.
On the afternoon of the 27th, Typhoon “Gemi” entered Hubei Province, gradually weakening in intensity but still bringing heavy rainfall to the region. The China Meteorological Administration stated on the 27th that from the night of the 27th to the 29th, there would be heavy to torrential rain in Guangdong, Guangxi, western Jiangxi, Hunan, central and western Hubei, among other areas. Parts of eastern and northwestern Hunan, western Jiangxi, southeastern coastal Guangdong, and other regions are likely to experience heavy rain, with pockets of severe downpours and locally extremely heavy rains.
According to state media CCTV, several towns in Zixing City, Hunan, have experienced record-breaking rainfall due to extreme weather conditions. As a result, the mountainous Baimianshan Township has become isolated from the outside world, with 8 out of 10 villages losing internet, power, and communication access.
Moreover, the train station and Wu Yi Road in Changsha City were heavily flooded on the 28th, with water levels reaching pedestrians’ knees in some areas. Videos showed numerous vehicles parked in the flooded square of the train station. However, according to the Hunan Daily, the water has mostly been cleared from the area.
In Yisuhu Town, Xintang Village, Guojia Bridge, Hunan, a breach in the embankment occurred on July 28th around 8 p.m. The breach expanded to 77 meters by 3:58 a.m. on the 29th. Currently, there have been no significant changes in the breach’s width, and the water levels inside and outside the embankment remain relatively stable.
Furthermore, the death toll from the mudslides in Hengyang has risen to 15, with 6 others injured.
Given the Chinese Communist Party’s tendency to conceal information, the actual extent of the damage may be more severe than reported.
Netizens in Changsha expressed concerns, with one saying, “Flooded twice in one month, once at the beginning of the month and once at the end. What trouble has the train station gotten into?”
Another netizen remarked, “The rains this year are fierce, disasters are everywhere. In Shaanxi’s Zhashui, a collapsed bridge has not accounted for, and now there are continuous floods. How can people survive?”
