Governor Spence Crox of Utah has issued a warning that after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Russia and China are attempting to spread false information through social media to incite violence. Congressman Tom Suozzi from New York’s 3rd District mentioned in an interview that foreign adversaries are exploiting America’s freedom of speech to divide the country and undermine its foundation from within.
According to Suozzi, there are four main reasons contributing to the current divisions in America. Firstly, he pointed out that a majority of Congress seats, specifically 380 out of 435, are considered safe seats. Those in safe seats tend to focus on primaries, leading to a situation where Republicans speak mainly to their base during primaries, and Democrats do the same, pulling everyone back into their respective camps.
Secondly, Suozzi highlighted the influence of social media platforms where extreme views garner the most likes, followers, views, and donations, further fueling division. He also mentioned that some media outlets contribute to spreading extreme views.
However, the most crucial and dangerous factor, as Suozzi pointed out, is that foreign adversaries are using American media channels and social platforms to spread extreme messages using bots and fake accounts, amplifying existing divisions to sow discord without favoring any side but solely seeking to see Americans turn against each other.
Suozzi gave examples, citing issues like “Black Lives Matter” versus “Blue Lives Matter,” Israel versus Hamas, and transgender individuals versus evangelical groups, where both sides are portrayed in an exaggerated and polarized manner. The ultimate goal for these foreign adversaries is to distort diversity as a weakness rather than a true strength, aiming to undermine the very foundation of the United States from within.
Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, social platforms have seen a surge in false information inciting violence. Governor Crox of Utah stated that they are tracking a significant amount of this misinformation, emphasizing that their adversaries are pushing for violence. He noted that many infuriating posts are not from fellow Americans but are instead originating from Russia, China, and various places worldwide through bots attempting to spread false information and encourage violence.
Just before the assassination of Kirk, Suozzi posted a video on social media urging both Democrats and Republicans to cease their hostilities. Following the incident, Suozzi reiterated the need to halt violence sparked due to political divisions.
In recent days, Suozzi has appeared on various media platforms advocating for bipartisan unity in combating drug traffickers and criminal organizations. In an interview with the Epoch Times on September 14th, Suozzi reiterated the importance of ending internal conflicts, stressing that Democrats and Republicans must stand together against common enemies such as threats at the border posed by drug cartels and organized crime.
Suozzi emphasized that there are numerous pressing issues both domestically and internationally that require resolution. Both parties must stop viewing each other as adversaries but rather as fellow Americans who should unite against actual threats aiming to dismantle the achievements of the United States. Collaboration is essential, as differences in opinion are acceptable, but fostering hatred towards each other is not. Showing care and joining hands is crucial for moving the country forward together, as only through unity can the nation steer back on the right track.
To get back on track, Suozzi believes that addressing issues such as cost of living, immigration policies, tax reforms, crime prevention, healthcare, and education collectively is the pathway towards achieving the common goal.
