Last Sunday (10th), dozens of Chinese residents in Southern California gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate in Los Angeles to speak out for the 14-year-old girl in Jiangyou, Sichuan, who fell victim to campus bullying, protesting against the violence and injustice of the Chinese Communist Party.
In early last month, a video filmed in Jiangyou, Sichuan, circulated online: a disabled female student was attacked by three same-aged girls, slapped, forced to kneel, and subjected to prolonged verbal abuse without anyone intervening. The incident caused an uproar once exposed, but the local government responded slowly, media reports deliberately blurred the truth, and the perpetrators’ families even boasted online. Faced with citizens gathering to protest, the local government deployed police forces to violently suppress, triggering greater public outrage and global attention.
In front of the consulate in Los Angeles, protesters raised banners saying “Support the girl in Jiangyou,” “Restore democracy, reject bullying,” “Hold officials accountable,” “End tyranny,” and chanted slogans in unison to express their concern over the Jiangyou incident and anger towards the totalitarian rule of the CCP.
The people of Jiangyou gathered for justice, demanding a fair handling of the bullied girl’s case, but faced repression from the Chinese authorities, with the perpetrators only receiving perfunctory reports. Lu Feng, the host of the rally and a member of the Chinese Democratic United Headquarters, criticized the CCP in his speech, calling out their hypocrisy for shouting “Never forget history” with the film “City of Life and Death” while simultaneously blocking people’s voices and concealing the reality of people being oppressed by CCP power.
“Today, we shout for the girl in Jiangyou who suffered hours of bullying. We do it not just for her but also for her disabled parents and for every child who could become a victim,” he said.
Zheng Cunzhu, chairman of the Chinese Democratic Party Headquarters, participated in the rally. In his speech, he stated that the Jiangyou bullying case reflected the deep-rooted injustice in Chinese society, where the lives of ordinary people are anything but peaceful, lacking only a catalyst to spark resistance. Once an event occurs, discontent rapidly spreads. He mentioned that many entrepreneurs and professionals who once contributed to China’s economic development are now silenced under political pressure, and the communist authoritarian system has sparked universal anxiety and anger.
Zheng pointed out that as long as the CCP regime exists, lacking freedom of speech and oversight mechanisms, the plight of marginalized groups will continue to recur at different times and locations. He urged overseas Chinese to use the freedom of information they encounter to relay the truth back to China, awakening more Chinese people; only then can communist dictatorship be ended, and society can move towards justice and freedom.
Due to the stringent control and suppression of truth by the CCP, domestic people find it difficult to see the follow-up developments of events or support the people of Jiangyou. Chinese Americans in the U.S. who understand the full extent of the incident voiced their condemnation of the actions of the CCP at the rally.
Eu Yang Bowen, a member of the Chinese Democratic Party, believed that the police’s tolerance of bullies, disregard for the safety of minors’ lives, and crackdown on those seeking justice have revealed the CCP’s cold-blooded and shameless nature. “This is not law enforcement but a blatant abuse of power! Responsibilities must be held, and tyranny cannot continue to oppress the people!”
Another member of the Chinese Democratic Party, Zhu Zuzhi, stated that after the Jiangyou incident, the government did not promptly disclose the truth, refused to listen to the demands of the victim’s family, and chose to block information, expel the media, and threaten those who speak out, once again exposing the essence of the CCP: “It is a regime that is indifferent to people’s lives and hostile to the truth.”
This protest rally was the 35th installment of the “Global Awakening” series of actions, co-organized by the Chinese Democratic Party National Headquarters in the Midwest and South of the United States and the China Democratic Human Rights Alliance.
