Taiwan’s Minister of National Defense, Gu Li-xiong, responded today to the “Python Strategy” implemented by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) military to pressure Taiwan. Gu emphasized that the expansionist nature of the CCP has always existed, and the Ministry of National Defense will have appropriate responses in place.
In an interview with the British magazine “The Economist,” Admiral Tang Hua, commander of the Taiwanese Navy, pointed out that the CCP military is actively pursuing the “Python Strategy” to exert pressure on Taiwan. He also mentioned that the Chinese military is prepared to blockade Taiwan at any given moment.
Minister Gu Li-xiong reiterated that the expansionist nature of the CCP has been constant and will not be altered by any individual’s assertions or policies. However, he emphasized the global recognition that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait region are essential for global security and prosperity. Therefore, the Ministry of National Defense closely monitors any tactics that the CCP may adopt and has suitable response measures prepared.
The Taiwanese Navy Command released a statement today, stating that the target of CCP expanding authoritarianism is not limited to Taiwan. The pressure on Taiwan is not aimed at any specific individuals or parties but is an attempt to utilize authoritarianism to alter the rules-based international order. The Navy remains vigilant towards any tactics employed by the CCP and is prepared to respond appropriately to safeguard maritime security.
The Navy Command pointed out, “The CCP utilizes cognitive warfare and military intimidation in the gray zone, progressively compressing our defense space with maritime and aerial forces. In response to CCP threats, the Navy flexibly deploys counter forces, integrates various surveillance methods, maintains continuous surveillance and response actions for extended periods, effectively responds while ensuring readiness and training.”
