Commemorative “June Fourth” 35th Anniversary Photo Exhibition Held at Miao Bidat Library

On May 12, the Chinese Democratic Education Foundation held a photo exhibition commemorating the 35th anniversary of the “June 4th” incident at the Miaobida Library.

The event showcased the specific events of the 1989 June 4th movement, which saw the Chinese Communist Party opening fire on patriotic students demanding democracy and freedom in Beijing. For 35 years, the CCP has sought to suppress this violent chapter in history, labeling unarmed students as “counter-revolutionary rioters.” Despite the sensitivity surrounding the mention of “June 4th” in China, those who have lived through or studied this history have not forgotten the significant democratic movement and the bloody night that unfolded.

During the exhibition, the President of the Chinese Democratic Education Foundation, Fang Zheng, along with board member Zheng Yun and other members and volunteers, gathered at the entrance of the Miaobida Library to set up display boards, providing passersby with a visual narrative of the 1989 June 4th events and a truthful account of history. They also prepared black T-shirts with the words “Never Forget June 4th” for sale.

Many passersby purchased these items as memorabilia, with some drivers even stopping to donate and support their cause.

Fang Zheng emphasized the importance of remembering this history, especially as the 35th anniversary of the June 4th incident approaches. He noted that many young people today have limited knowledge or have already forgotten this historical event. He stressed the need to educate people about the truth of June 4th and ensure that it remains in the collective memory.

As a survivor and eyewitness of the June 4th event, Fang Zheng highlighted the correlation between the CCP’s crackdown in 1989 and the current challenges and crises within the Chinese regime. He urged individuals to reflect on history, confront the present reality, and look towards a future free from the oppressive rule of the CCP.

Fang Zheng concluded by underscoring the importance of courageously opposing the regime to achieve genuine democracy and freedom for the Chinese people, leading them towards a life in a normal and free society.

Zheng Yun mentioned that this year, the foundation introduced display boards with content in both Chinese and English. Through this exhibition, they aim to enlighten more overseas individuals, particularly those in American society, about the realities of China and the Communist Party’s actions.

She emphasized the CCP’s inclination towards whitewashing and concealing their wrongdoings, maintaining a facade of denial and preventing other countries from knowing the truth. The foundation’s objective is to expose the crimes of the CCP to more overseas individuals, enabling them to see through the party’s façade and raise awareness to prevent further human rights violations and atrocities.
