Breaking News: Former Party Secretary and Director of Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum (Chongqing Museum), Mou Fengjing, has been expelled from the Party and dismissed from public office for serious violations of discipline and law. Mou had previously served as the head of two major media groups in Chongqing.
According to a report from the Chongqing Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision on August 15, Mou Fengjing is under investigation for serious violations of discipline and law. The report stated that Mou obstructed organizational review, accepted gifts in violation of regulations, transferred expenses that should have been paid by himself to subordinate units, profited and accepted bribes for others in job adjustments and employee recruitment, used his position for personal gain in advertising placements and agency matters, illegally accepted huge amounts of money, and abused power in decision-making, which constituted serious violations of duties and suspected crimes of bribery and abuse of power by personnel of state-owned enterprises. Mou has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and removed from public office, with his suspected criminal issues referred to the prosecutor’s office for review and prosecution.
Public records show that Mou Fengjing, 59 years old this year, has been engaged in journalism for a long time. After graduating from Shandong University in 1987, he was assigned to Xinhua News Agency and worked in news editing at the Liaoning Branch, Tibet Branch, and Chongqing Branch. In 2000, he was transferred to Chongqing Daily Newspaper Group, where he served as the Chief Editor of Chongqing Daily, Deputy Chief Editor of Chongqing Daily Newspaper, Vice President of the Group, and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee. He was recognized as a “batch of outstanding journalists in the national propaganda and cultural system” and enjoyed a special subsidy from the State Council.
The so-called “batch of outstanding journalists” is a selection of scholar-type officials under 50 years old to enter the propaganda system, with four criteria: being a theoretical scholar who understands the “Three Represents” theory well, a journalist who adheres to the propaganda direction of the Shanghai clique, an editor who dares to criticize intellectuals’ good works, and a writer who vigorously praises Jiang Zemin, the former leader of the Chinese Communist Party.
In April 2013, Mou Fengjing was appointed as the President and Director of Chongqing Radio and Television Group (Headquarters); in September 2017, he served as the Vice Chairman of the Sixth Central Committee of the China Television Association; in October 2021, he became the Vice Chairman of the Fourth Council of the Chongqing Journalists Association. He later transitioned to the position of Party Secretary and Director of Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, until his investigation was announced in June this year.
According to the official website, the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, formerly known as the Southwest Museum established in 1951, renamed as the Chongqing Museum in 1955, was approved by the General Office of the State Council in 2000 to establish the Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum, which is one of the first-class national museums.
