According to mainland news reports, 21-year-old Dan Rushi, from Yan’er Village in Shiyan Town, Changshou District, Chongqing, was the second of three sisters. In 2021, she was admitted to the Jiangsu Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Technology Vocational College majoring in pet veterinary medicine. In February of last year, she told her father that she wanted to take a year off from school to work and earn money.
Dan Rushi’s older sister, Dan Li (alias), quoted in the report, mentioned that after dropping out of school, Dan Rushi lived alone in a residential building in the Nan District of Wenhuai Garden, Jincheng Town, Jintan District, Changzhou City, working as a cashier, but the specific workplace was unknown. On February 27 of this year, Dan Rushi tearfully called her father asking him to complete a consent form for her return to school and requested her household register. That night, her mother sent her a photo of the household register.
On the following day, February 28, the family couldn’t contact Dan Rushi. She didn’t answer calls, messages, or voice calls. Subsequently, her father reported her missing to the police.
The report mentioned that on the morning of April 18, the Datukou Police Station in Chongqing informed the victim’s parents to come to Changzhou for DNA testing, indicating that Dan Rushi might have been murdered. After DNA identification, it was confirmed that Dan Rushi was killed and dismembered.
Information in the victims’ family WeChat group revealed that the victim’s father stated that Dan Rushi had been dismembered, with some parts thrown into the sea and her head buried on a mountain after being individually packaged.
The culprit was captured on camera on February 28 when he went to collect money with Dan Rushi. He took all the money from her card and she was unresponsive after that. After the family reported to the police, it took a long time for the police to identify him. Eventually, the culprit confessed. Dan Rushi was strangled to death by the culprit on March 18 and later dismembered.
Following the murder of Dan Rushi, the culprit used her phone to post on social media, leading the family to believe she was still alive.
Dan Li mentioned that after her sister’s murder, the culprit traveled to Zhangjiajie, Changzhou, and other places, frequently posting on social media using her sister’s phone. The culprit even demanded money from the family in the same manner as her sister, citing phone issues, asking for 1000 yuan from their father and 500 yuan from their younger sister. During this period, the culprit only communicated through text, avoiding calls and video chats.
As of now, the family only knows that the victim was strangled and dismembered. They do not know the relationship between the victim and the culprit, the identity of the culprit, or his name.
