The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Friday, October 24th, that Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory in Michigan is recalling two popular chocolate bars due to the possibility of undisclosed allergen ingredients.
This voluntary recall comes just days before Halloween and involves the “Peanut Butter Crush” full-size bar which did not list cashew ingredients, and the “Ca$hew Cow” full-size bar which did not list peanut ingredients.
The announcement emphasizes that “for those allergic or severely sensitive to cashews or peanuts, consuming these products may result in severe, even life-threatening allergic reactions.” No injury reports related to this recall have been received at the moment.
The recall notice states that the incident stemmed from “a temporary error in the production and packaging process.”
The recalled products have been distributed to retailers in Michigan and New York. The “Peanut Butter Crush” is packaged in a yellow and purple box with batch number #174250, while the “Ca$hew Cow” is packaged in a light blue and yellow box with batch number #174250.
Zingerman’s company stated that measures have been taken to address the issue and consumers can return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund. For inquiries, please contact the Zingerman’s Candy Manufactory customer service hotline at 877-632-9264.
