China Weapon Equipment Group Co., Ltd. former party member and deputy general manager Liu Weidong has been expelled from the party and dismissed from his position due to serious violations of duty and suspected bribery crimes. The case has been transferred to the procuratorial organs for review and prosecution. Liu Weidong engaged in activities such as accepting entertainment, travel arrangements, and playing golf that may affect the fair execution of public duties, seeking benefits for others in promotions and employee recruitment, receiving gifts and money, using public power for personal gain, and unlawfully receiving large sums of money.
Liu Weidong was accused of using his position for personal gains and accumulating wealth through corrupt practices. His misconduct involved leveraging his authority for the benefit of others in business operations and career advancements. Official records show that Liu Weidong, born in 1966, is 59 years old and was only a year away from retirement. He had a long career in the automotive industry, serving as the general manager of Shenlong Automobile Co., Ltd. and later as the deputy general manager of Dongfeng Motor Corporation. In May 2018, he was appointed as the deputy general manager and party member of China Weapon Equipment Group Co., Ltd., ranking fourth in the company’s management hierarchy. However, he was investigated on February 12 this year during his tenure in the company.
China Weapon Equipment Group Co., Ltd. was established on July 1, 1999, and is one of the ten major defense industry enterprises directly managed by the central government.
In recent years, there has been a continuous crackdown within the Chinese defense industry system, with several high-ranking officials of state-owned military enterprises falling from grace.
On March 17, 2025, Tan Ruisong, former party secretary and chairman of China Aviation Industry Group, was arrested; on January 18, 2025, the chief engineer Yang Wei and general manager Hao Zhaoping of the J-20 were relieved of their duties; in October 2024, He Wenzhong, former party member and deputy general manager of China Electronic Technology Group responsible for producing various high-tech military equipment, was arrested.
Furthermore, there are concerns surrounding the whereabouts of Yu Jianfeng, the chairman of China National Nuclear Corporation, who has been missing for over four months since the Chinese New Year period. The official leadership list on the China National Nuclear Corporation website does not include Yu Jianfeng, leading to speculation that he might have encountered trouble.
