Chinese Robot Caught on Camera “Hit-and-Run” Incident, Netizens Outraged

The “2025 World Humanoid Robot Olympics” recently concluded in Beijing. A video of a Chinese robot “hitting and fleeing” during the competition has surfaced online, sparking attention among mainland Chinese netizens.

The “2025 World Humanoid Robot Olympics” was held from August 14th to 17th at the National Speed Skating Hall, known as the “Ice Ribbon,” in Beijing. It is reported that 280 teams from 16 countries, with over 500 humanoid robots, participated in 26 events including competitions and performances.

Although the competition has ended, a video of a Chinese robot “hitting and fleeing” during the competition has recently gained attention on Chinese social media platforms.

The video shows a humanoid robot with a similar stature to humans sprinting on the outer track during a sprint race. Suddenly, it veers towards the inner track, knocks down one operator controlling a competitor on the inner track, then proceeds to collide with another operator. The operator who fell to the ground in pain struggles to get up, while the robot briefly stops to glance at the fallen operator before returning to the outer track and continuing its run forward.

After the video surfaced, many mainland Chinese netizens expressed shock, with comments like, “Is it my illusion, or did the robot stop and look at the fallen person after the collision before continuing to run?” “This is definitely intentional.” “Hit and run, unbelievable.” “Even robots understand tactics: hitting a robot is a foul, so hitting the human controller should not be a foul.” “I’ve always said that AI robots will autonomously attack humans, and now it’s starting.”

“Uncontrollable machines today may hit people, and tomorrow they may pose dangerous threats. This kind of thing may become increasingly common.” “Who knows when movies become reality, we’re done for.”

Some netizens also voiced concerns, “What if extremists first apply robots to harm people?”
