On August 25, 2025, it was reported that four Chinese coast guard vessels harassed the waters around Kinmen twice on the 24th, in the morning and afternoon, and were driven away by Taiwan Coast Guard Administration patrol boats.
The Ocean Affairs Council of the Republic of China’s Coast Guard Administration in Kinmen, Matsu, and Penghu released a statement saying that the “21st national referendum of citizens for the year 114 (2025)” was successfully conducted on the 23rd. However, on the 24th, Chinese coast guard vessels intruded into the waters around Kinmen twice during the weekend. The Coast Guard Administration immediately dispatched patrol boats to guard our country’s water territory and ensure its safety.
According to the Kinmen, Matsu, and Penghu Coast Guard Administration, at 8:50 a.m. on the 24th, four Chinese coast guard vessels with identification numbers “14608,” “14527,” “14603,” and “14515” entered the waters around Kinmen from the southwest of Dadou Mountain. They turned off their Automatic Identification System (AIS) and sailed east in a line formation, but were detected by the coast guard. The patrol boats were quickly dispatched to respond and successfully drove the Chinese coast guard vessels out of the restricted area by 11 a.m.
In the afternoon of the same day, the four Chinese coast guard vessels once again harassed the waters around Kinmen at 3 p.m. The patrol boats that were pre-positioned by the Coast Guard Administration immediately responded and, through radio broadcasts in Chinese and English, instructed the Chinese vessels to turn away and leave. Under the monitoring of the patrol boats, the Chinese coast guard vessels sailed out of the restricted waters of Kinmen by 5:10 p.m.
The Kinmen, Matsu, and Penghu Coast Guard Administration stated that this was the first time in two years that Chinese coast guard vessels had conducted such provocative actions on a Sunday, just one day after the completion of the recall and referendum. The situation was different from before. Despite this, the Coast Guard Administration remains vigilant day and night, on both weekdays and holidays, to ensure national sovereignty and rights.
The Republic of China Coast Guard Administration once again urged China to stop such destabilizing actions in the region to prevent backlash from people on both sides of the strait. The Coast Guard Administration always upholds a firm law enforcement stance, being fully prepared to defend national sovereignty and ensure national security.
