In order to assist the victims of the Hualien earthquake on April 3 in Taiwan to rebuild their homes, Song Zhenbiao, Vice President and Secretary-General of the San Diego Yuemian Liao Chinese Association, visited the Orange County Overseas Chinese Cultural and Educational Service Center on April 18. He represented the association in donating a $3,000 check to the Ministry of Health and Welfare special account, entrusting the Overseas Chinese Cultural and Educational Service Center to transfer the donation, hoping to expedite the reconstruction work in the disaster area.
Song Zhenbiao mentioned that the Richter magnitude 7.2 earthquake that occurred on the morning of April 3 was the most powerful earthquake in Taiwan since the 1999 921 earthquake, resulting in 17 deaths, 1,155 injuries, 37 people trapped, and 2 missing individuals across Taiwan. Many houses collapsed or partially collapsed, and many infrastructure such as roads, bridges, vital pipelines, and schools suffered varying degrees of damage, especially the eastern part of Taiwan being the hardest hit. After seeing the news, he and the association president, Wei Renxiong, felt deeply concerned and called on all members of the San Diego Yuemian Liao Chinese Association to lend a helping hand, hoping that the compatriots in the disaster area can rebuild their homes sooner and return to normal life.
Director Xiao Beiru of the Orange County Overseas Chinese Cultural and Educational Service Center expressed gratitude for the long-term support and donations from the San Diego Yuemian Liao Chinese Association. She still remembers last year’s first visit to the Yuemian Liao Chinese Association, where many people expressed interest in visiting Taiwan. She is pleased that this year everyone can make the trip. Xiao Beiru thanked Secretary-General Song Zhenbiao for leading the San Diego Yuemian Liao overseas Chinese to participate in the World Yuemian Liao Chinese Association Joint Conference in Taiwan, and wished the members of the San Diego Yuemian Liao Chinese Association a successful visit to Taiwan, leaving behind many beautiful memories.
