Sun Feifei, a 44-year-old mainland Chinese actress, recently took to Weibo to expose the chaos in the entertainment industry. She detailed her experience of violence during the filming of the TV drama “Bloody Romance” in 2010, sparking widespread attention.
In a video posted on July 22nd, Sun Feifei stated, “Today, I will address the doubts of netizens. Why was I beaten? Some productions are not made to create good content but rather to embezzle money from the country for personal gain. ‘Bloody Romance’ was born for this reason.”
Recalling her time filming “Bloody Romance,” Sun Feifei mentioned pointing out script inconsistencies and set mistakes, which delayed the production and led to her becoming a target for the director and others. She was brutally attacked by the director Zhang Hanjie’s nephew, Yang Zhaohua (assistant director), and the producer Yao Yuan, resulting in facial fractures, concussion, and medical expenses exceeding 800,000 RMB. She also revealed that her assistant, Liu Lei, had her phone stolen when she tried to call the police and witnesses were threatened into silence.
In November 2023, Sun Feifei shared details of the assault incident from 2010 involving the “Bloody Romance” crew on Weibo, exposing the inaction of the Liaoning police and various insider dealings within the Chinese film and television industry, sparking public outrage.
Following the exposure of the violence incident, Sun Feifei was portrayed by official media as “late and unauthorized leave” and accused of “stirring up trouble and seeking fame.” Sun Feifei issued a statement on Weibo, asserting, “Some claim that the assault was fabricated. The assault is an undeniable fact, and if proven false, I’m willing to quit the entertainment industry.”
Despite eventually leaving the film and television industry, Sun Feifei shed light on the ‘unspoken rules’ in the entertainment industry on Weibo – the all-encompassing power granted by the Chinese Radio and Television Administration to directors over actors.
Sun Feifei stated, “Acting is my job, and I won’t give up my career due to injustice. However, there is an organization in the Chinese television industry called the Chinese TV Directors Committee. Director Zhang Hanjie of ‘Bloody Romance’ is a member. The TV Directors Association regularly issues a blacklist of actors, and those on the list are not hired. After the violence in ‘Bloody Romance,’ Zhang Hanjie, to cover his tracks, only had one solution – to erase me from the entertainment industry. With Zhang Hanjie’s concerted efforts, I was included in the blacklist.”
Public records indicate that Sun Feifei, born in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province, graduated from the Beijing Dance Academy. She rose to fame in 2003 for her role as Princess Jing in the TV drama “Pingzhong Xiaying” and as Yue Siying in “Li Wei as an Official 2”. Sun Feifei gained recognition in 2004 for her role in the Sino-Korean joint production “Beijing, My Love” and achieved popularity in South Korea. In 2005, she starred as the female lead Ajiu in the Zhang Jizhong version of “The Smiling, Proud Wanderer”. In 2008, she played the female lead in the TV drama “The Peacock Flies Southeast”. In 2013, she appeared in “Qing Woe Heroic” and “Confidential Frontline Chronicles”.
