Chinatown Manhattan’s Confucius Plaza Cherry Blossom Season: Experience the Pink Sakura Trail

The cherry blossom season of the Confucius Plaza in New York officially kicked off on the 16th of April, 2024, with the announcement made by Mei Luosheng, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Confucius Plaza in New York, Vice Chairman Lu Yuanlong, Democratic Party leader in the 65th District Yu Jinshan, Acting Chairman of the New York Chinese Public Office Zeng Weikang, and Jiang Junlan, assistant of the New York Annliang Chamber of Commerce. Over 120 cherry blossom trees surrounding the Confucius Plaza will bloom in the next three weeks, creating a romantic pink cherry blossom trail along Wentworth Street and Pell Street in Chinatown.

Since 2001, the Confucius Plaza has actively participated in greening and planting cherry blossoms, with over 120 mature cherry blossom trees now adorning Chinatown in pink every spring. Former New York City Parks Commissioner Kastzuo once praised the cherry blossom season at the Confucius Plaza as the “most beautiful cherry blossom forest in the city.”

The cherry blossom forest surrounding the Confucius Plaza and its courtyard primarily features double-petaled Yoshino cherry blossoms. The Yoshino cherry blossoms are characterized by their rich pink color, with each flower having at least five petals and up to fifty, creating a lush and luxurious display. During their blooming period, clusters of cherry blossoms open on the bent branches, creating a beautiful sight with the cherry blossoms reflecting on people’s faces. As the blossoms fall, the sidewalks are painted pink, making both the blooming and falling of the flowers a picturesque view.
