China Agricultural Bank Zhejiang Branch Chief Surrenders, Implicates Multiple Individuals in Investigation

Three years after stepping down as the head of the Zhejiang Branch of the Agricultural Bank of China, Feng Jianlong was reportedly taken away for investigation at the end of last month. On May 7, the Communist Party of China’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection officially announced that Feng Jianlong had voluntarily surrendered himself.

According to the notification issued on May 7 by the Communist Party of China’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection website, Feng Jianlong, the former chief expert of the Agricultural Bank of China and former Party Secretary and President of the Zhejiang Provincial Branch, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently undergoing review and investigation after voluntarily turning himself in.

At the age of 63, Feng Jianlong, a native of Zhejiang, has had a long career at the Agricultural Bank of China, having held various positions including Party Committee Member and Deputy President of the Hunan Branch, Party Committee Member and Deputy President of the Zhejiang Provincial Branch, Director of the Guangzhou Branch of the Audit Bureau, Party Secretary and President of the Chongqing Branch, Chief Expert of the Agricultural Bank, and Party Secretary and President of the Zhejiang Provincial Branch, before stepping down in June 2022. On April 25 this year, news emerged that Feng Jianlong was taken away for investigation.

According to a report by the Southern Metropolis Daily, Feng Jianlong is the first financial official in the system to voluntarily surrender himself after the Central Inspection Team entered Zhejiang.

Following Feng Jianlong’s investigation, Caixin.com recently learned from informed sources that Feng Jianlong’s home was searched and that his immediate family members and several private entrepreneurs were also taken away for detention. The Discipline Inspection Commission stated that a considerable amount of cash was found during the search at his home, involving several private entrepreneurs, including potentially stock market “big players.”

In the first quarter of 2025, according to incomplete statistics from Watch Times, at least 29 individuals from the financial system have been investigated, including 3 central-level cadres, 17 cadres from central-level party and state organs, state-owned enterprises, and financial institutions, and 9 provincial-level officials.

Among them, three individuals from the financial sector in Zhejiang have fallen from grace this year, including Pan Guang’en, former Deputy Director of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee’s Financial Office, former member of the Provincial Party Committee’s Financial Work Committee, and former Deputy Director of the Provincial Local Financial Regulatory Bureau, who voluntarily turned himself in in January; Tu Lianggang, senior expert at the Zhejiang Provincial Branch of the Bank of Communications, who was investigated in February; and Gao Qiang, former President of the Zhejiang Provincial Branch of the Construction Bank, who was investigated in April.
