On November 26, 2025, Chengdu Mayor Wang Fengchao was officially announced to be under investigation. Prior to this, on November 21, he had participated in a public event. Wang Fengchao had held high-level positions in several state-owned enterprises in Sichuan for a long time.
According to a report from the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission on November 26, Wang Fengchao, the Deputy Secretary of the Chengdu Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is currently under disciplinary review and supervision investigation by the central authorities.
Previously, on November 22, the Chengdu Daily reported that Wang Fengchao had attended three events on November 21: the opening ceremony of the 2025 Global Panda Partner Conference, a meeting of the municipal government party group (expanded), and the 71st executive meeting of the municipal government.
According to Caixin website, news of Wang Fengchao being investigated began to circulate in public on November 23.
Publicly available information shows that Wang Fengchao was born in December 1965 in Zhongjiang, Sichuan. After graduating from university in July 1986, he interned at Workshop Nine of Changhong Machinery Factory, where he worked for 19 years. Wang Fengchao has transitioned twice from being a corporate executive to a government position.
In September 2005, Wang Fengchao moved to the government and served as the Deputy Mayor of Neijiang City, Sichuan. Two years later, his position was adjusted and he became the Deputy Director of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Sichuan Province.
In August 2010, Wang Fengchao returned to state-owned enterprises and served as the Vice Chairman of Sichuan Airlines Group Co., Ltd., later becoming the General Manager and Chairman of the company. In June 2015, he was appointed as the Chairman of Sichuan Development (Holdings) Co., Ltd. and less than two years later, he also took on the roles of Party Secretary and Chairman of Sichuan Financial Holdings Group Co., Ltd.
In September 2019, Wang Fengchao transitioned from the corporate sector to the government for the second time and was appointed as the Vice Governor of Sichuan Province. At that time, he ranked last among the seven vice governors, responsible for industrial economy, science and technology, state-owned assets, national defense industry, communication, and military-civilian integration development.
In September 2020, Wang Fengchao moved on to become the Deputy Secretary of the Chengdu Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, until the current investigation took place.
