Recently, a missing person notice has been circulating on the internet, reporting that a female student from a university in Chengdu went missing by the river in Jintang County.
According to the notice, the 19-year-old female college student named Jiang from the School of Hope at Southwest Jiaotong University disappeared around 7:20 pm on December 31, 2024, after getting off at the Baiguo Bridge in Shunjiang Street, Jintang County, Chengdu. She was last seen buying things at a supermarket near the bridge around 9:43 pm and has been missing for several days. The local search efforts have been unsuccessful.
As reported by Upstream News, on the morning of January 12th, Jintang police revealed that the body of the female student was found 12 days after her disappearance, and relevant notifications will be issued after DNA identification.
On January 9th at noon, the Chengdu Jintang County Public Security Bureau released a police report stating that Jiang took a ride-hailing car from the school gate around 6:40 pm on December 31, 2024, got off at the Baiguo Bridge at about 7:25 pm, and was last seen walking towards the Tuo River from Shunjiang Street around 9:50 pm. She then entered a blind spot in the monitoring system and disappeared.
According to Jiang’s brother, there were no abnormalities before her disappearance, and the last sighting of her was near the Baiguo Bridge. Her family has been anxiously searching the river under the bridge several times, but with no avail. Jiang, a native of Guangyuan, Sichuan, was wearing a black down jacket, dark gray jeans, and white sneakers when she went missing.
On the morning of the 12th, Mr. Wei from a civilian rescue team in Chengdu mentioned that they had been searching in the Tuo River for the past few days. Surveillance footage showed the female student near a riverside supermarket, but there have been no further traces or monitoring records since then. Wei stated, “Yesterday morning (the 11th), we used sonar to search the river for over two hours, continued in the afternoon, and there was progress this morning (the 12th). However, we are unable to disclose more information as it needs to be announced by the police.”
In the morning of the 12th, officials from the Jintang County Public Security Bureau confirmed that the body of the female student was indeed found that day, stating, “Preliminary judgment confirms the identity, it’s very unfortunate, and the specific reasons cannot be disclosed at the moment. After the DNA results are obtained, relevant notifications will be released.”
