On June 25th, it was the 80th birthday anniversary of the late Hong Kong star, Lydia Shum (Fei Jeh). Her manager, Chan Suk Fan, along with her son Chan Ka Ho and a group of friends, visited Po Fook Hill to pay tribute. At the site, a giant “80” background board made of Fei Jeh’s smiling photos and decorated with her favorite purple hydrangea flowers created a warm and touching atmosphere.
Chan Suk Fan posted photos on Xiaohongshu (Red Book) saying, “Time flies, in a blink of an eye, Fei Jeh has been gone for 17 years. She was our most amiable ‘joyful nut,’ and I hope everyone will remember Fei Jeh’s laughter.” Fei Jeh’s greatest concern was her daughter Joyce Shin. Chan Suk Fan deliberately brought several photos of Joyce with her mother, as well as recent award-winning photos, to report on her daughter’s musical achievements to Fei Jeh’s spirit, wishing her peace and comfort in the afterlife.
Joyce Shin, who just celebrated her 38th birthday, is the daughter of actors Adam Cheng and the late superstar Lydia Shum. She officially debuted as a singer in 2011 and achieved the Hong Kong Female Singer Grand Slam in 2022, proving her talent to the world and successfully shedding the label of being a “second-generation star.”
However, Joyce Shin has been absent from public events since her concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum in March 2023, and has rarely updated her social media platforms. During the unexpected two-year “disappearance,” apart from making a cameo appearance in a music video for her friend Hubert Wu and dubbing for the animated series “Disney’s Wish,” her work came to a halt. Her manager, Lam Santsan, once responded, “Joyce is indeed unwell and needs time to heal. Please give her space.”
Joyce Shin’s two-year hiatus caught the attention of fans and media when in April this year, she was found to have cleared all content on her Instagram, causing concern. Considering previous rumors about Joyce suffering from depression and her prolonged absence from work, fans have been extremely worried about her condition. However, it is rumored that Joyce Shin has just ended her contract with Pan Asia Music and signed with Universal Music. She is set to release a new song next month, becoming a junior sister under the mentorship of Jacky Cheung and Eason Chan.
On June 24th, China’s Hunan Satellite TV announced that Joyce Shin will be a guest singer on this week’s “I Am a Singer 2025” program and will perform live on Friday. The official Weibo account wrote, “Her voice is honey brewed by time, carrying healing sweetness and the harvest of growth. We look forward to her using music to tell the world a gentle declaration.”
Previously, mainland Chinese media summarized Joyce Shin’s vocal characteristics, describing her powerful voice as “shocking during concerts at the Coliseum, dubbed as having ‘lung power rivaling G.E.M.’ and praised her emotional singing depth, stating, “She excels in incorporating everyday emotions into her songs, as seen in ‘Have You Lost Enough Weight’ which resonates deeply.”
