ChatGPT malfunctions, at least nearly two thousand users unable to use

On Tuesday (June 10), the chatbot ChatGPT experienced a malfunction, with nearly 2,000 users reporting that they were unable to use this artificial intelligence tool.

According to data from the digital service monitoring website Downdetector, reports of interruptions in OpenAI’s services surged on Tuesday morning. As of 11 a.m. Eastern Time, the website had received nearly 2,000 user reports of ChatGPT malfunctioning.

Some users’ screens displayed a “too many concurrent requests” message, or the tool was unable to respond to questions.

Not only ChatGPT, but also other products under OpenAI, including the Sora video generator, API platform, and other tools, were rendered unusable due to the company’s service interruption.

On Tuesday morning, OpenAI posted on social media platform X, stating: “We have observed an increase in the error rate and delay for ChatGPT and our API.”

“Our engineers have identified the root cause and are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” the post added.

OpenAI’s status page indicated that as of 11 a.m. on Tuesday, the widespread service interruption had been ongoing for approximately 8 hours.

Data from Downdetector shows that the majority of issues reported by OpenAI users (92%) are related to the company’s generative AI chatbot ChatGPT.

On Monday, OpenAI announced that its Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) had reached $10 billion. Last year, the company had an ARR of about $5.5 billion, but reported losses of around $5 billion.

On the previous Saturday, ChatGPT introduced an update for premium users called “Advanced Voice” functionality. According to the release notes, this feature enhances the chatbot’s “intonation and naturalness, making communication interactions smoother and more human-like.”
