The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced a recall of certain batches of mixed nuts products sold by the East Coast chain supermarket Stop & Shop due to labeling issues. The products contain hazelnuts, but the allergen warning label did not specify this, potentially posing a health risk to allergic consumers.
The recall was initiated by Hampton Farms, with two types of products affected: unsalted and salted 8 oz packages of roasted mixed nuts.
These products were distributed to Stop & Shop stores in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island between September 2 and September 9.
During a routine document check on September 15, Hampton Farms discovered the labeling error and promptly notified retailers. No related illness reports have been received as of now.
A spokesperson for Stop & Shop stated that the company takes food safety very seriously and immediately removed all affected products from shelves upon receiving notification from the manufacturer in September.
The FDA urges customers who have purchased the affected products to dispose of them immediately or return them to the store for a full refund.
