Canadian superstar Celine Dion has been diligently raising her children since the passing of her husband. When discussing her life with Stiff Person Syndrome, she revealed that she still feels her husband’s presence.
In 2016, Celine Dion’s husband René Angélil passed away at the age of 73 after battling throat cancer. The 56-year-old Dion opened up about her life over the past years in her new documentary “I Am: Celine Dion.” In a cover story for the latest issue of “People” magazine, she expressed her belief that her late husband’s soul continues to be with her, and she “always” feels René.
Dion said, “René and I still have a marriage. He’s still my husband. Whenever we go to see the doctor for treatment, I always bring (his) picture, and of course, our photos are all over the house.”
In 2001, Dion and her husband had their first son, Charles, and nine years later, they welcomed twins Eddie and Nelson. Charles, 23, and twins Eddie and Nelson, 13, have been by their father’s side throughout.
Dion reminisced, “Even when they were very young, even when he was suffering in the room, he would lie with us on his bed, he was still with us.” When René passed away, Eddie and Nelson were only 5 years old. Dion shared that her children would tell their dad, “Daddy, we’re going to watch ‘Ratatouille’ tonight, hope you like it.” They would speak to him, kiss his photos.
On the local morning show “Sunrise” in Australia on the 13th, Dion revealed that her children fear she will die from Stiff Person Syndrome. She said, “My children worry that I’m not there, and they don’t have a dad. My children are scared because they lost their father and wonder if I will die.”
In 2022, Dion told “Today,” “I didn’t take the time to stop and think. My husband was fighting for his life too, I had to raise my kids, I had to hide, I had to try to be a hero.” As of today, Dion’s Stiff Person Syndrome has become unbearable for her. She said, “I feel my body leaving me, holding on to my dreams…I can’t go on like this anymore.”
According to the “Daily Mail,” Stiff Person Syndrome is difficult to detect and diagnose, there is no specific treatment, and it cannot be cured. Dion had been ill with this condition for many years before being diagnosed in 2022. Patients with this condition often experience stiffness in limbs and trunk, as well as severe muscle spasms.
