To celebrate the 114th National Day of the Republic of China, the Los Angeles Overseas Community Assistance Association held a “Community Safety Resource Event” at the Los Angeles Overseas Community Center on October 4th. The event attracted nearly a hundred overseas community members and local residents to come together to focus on community safety and health.
The event featured four practical seminars covering topics such as fraud prevention, healthcare, disaster awareness, and traditional Chinese medicine first aid. Attendees not only gained practical knowledge but also enjoyed souvenirs, mini mooncakes, and raffle activities, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Detective Aily Baldwin from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Fraud and Cybercrime Investigation Bureau gave a talk on “Introduction to Fraud Prevention,” analyzing prevalent scam tactics and prevention strategies. Renowned nephrologist Dr. Chen Weizuo spoke about “Understanding and Protecting Kidney Function,” sharing years of clinical experience and health tips. Xing Min, a social education promotion officer from the Tzu Chi Foundation, discussed “Home Disaster Preparedness,” helping people grasp pre-disaster response knowledge.
Traditional Chinese medicine practitioner Li Jingxin talked about “Home Emergency Treatment in Traditional Chinese Medicine,” teaching simple and practical natural remedies and first aid techniques. He led a team to provide free consultations and treatment on internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, andrology, infertility, and orthopedics on-site, helping people understand their health conditions and get appropriate advice.
President Yang Jiagan stated that the association has long been promoting emergency assistance and disaster education, hoping to convey correct knowledge through activities to help the community be more prepared and confident in facing emergencies. Chairperson Liu Huaijun pointed out that emergencies often happen unexpectedly, and education and reminders can play a crucial role at such times. She urged overseas media to promote more and encouraged more families to actively participate.
This event is the 11th in the series of Double Tenth National Day celebrations, transitioning from celebrating the National Day to caring for community health. It demonstrates the spirit of the Southern California overseas Chinese community, who, while celebrating the National Day of the Republic of China, also strive to raise awareness of disaster prevention and health in the community.
