The Chinese Communist Party’s Tianjin Municipal Party Committee Standing Committee and Minister of the Organization Department, Zhou Derui, has been implicated in serious violations of discipline and law and is currently under investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission. Zhou Derui is a former subordinate of the current Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress, Li Hongzhong.
According to publicly available information, Zhou Derui was born in February 1966 in Qidong, Hengyang, Hunan province. He has held various positions in Hunan, including as a Standing Committee member of the Yongzhou Municipal Party Committee and Minister of the Organization Department, a Standing Committee member and Executive Deputy Mayor of the city, Vice Secretary of the Changde Municipal Party Committee, Mayor of Changde, Secretary of the Changde Municipal Party Committee, and Chairman of the Changde Municipal People’s Congress.
After working in Hunan for 31 years, Zhou Derui was appointed as the Deputy Mayor of Tianjin in March 2021, and later served as a Standing Committee member of the municipal party committee, Minister of the Propaganda Department, and Minister of the Organization Department.
Zhou Derui is a former subordinate of the current Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress, Li Hongzhong.
On September 13, 2016, the then Secretary of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee, Huang Xingguo, was investigated, and Li Hongzhong succeeded him as the Party Secretary. Li Hongzhong was promoted to the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on October 25, 2017, and was re-elected as a member of the Political Bureau in October 2022. In December of the same year, he stepped down as the Party Secretary of Tianjin. On March 10, 2023, he assumed the position of the top-ranking Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress.
During Li Hongzhong’s leadership in Tianjin, Zhou Derui’s career flourished.
