Carbon Monoxide Leak Leads to Evacuation of Atlanta Hotel, 5 People Hospitalized.

An incident believed to be a carbon monoxide leak occurred at a hotel in downtown Atlanta on Friday (January 3), leading to the evacuation of on-site personnel and five individuals being hospitalized for examination.

Shortly after 9 a.m. local time, the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD) arrived at the Residence Inn by Marriott located at 134 Peachtree Street Northwest.

According to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Greg Gray, Assistant Chief of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, stated that three adults and two children were taken to the hospital for monitoring of carbon monoxide exposure or inhalation.

AFRD’s update on social media platform X stated, “The gas pipeline has been shut off and the situation is stabilized. Preliminary search and evacuation work have been completed.”

The hotel is situated within the historic Rhodes-Haverty Building, a 21-story structure built in 1929, which was once the tallest building in Atlanta.
