On the evening of July 21, an accident occurred in Changsha’s Wuyi Square, where a black sedan suddenly accelerated towards pedestrians, hitting multiple people and causing chaos at the scene. Surveillance cameras captured the moment of the incident.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud noise at the time of the incident. “I saw shoes flying out, it was a black car that caused the accident, and then 8 ambulances arrived.”
Footage from the scene shows multiple people being knocked down, with some trapped under the car. Many citizens rushed forward to lift the car and rescue people.
Changsha Public Security Bureau Traffic Police Detachment reported on July 22 that at 8:47 pm on July 21, a black sedan with license plate Xiang ADH7367 was traveling from east to west at the intersection of Jiefang Road and Huangxing Road while waiting for the green light. The driver ran the red light, hitting pedestrians on the crosswalk and a car parked on the side of the road, resulting in 8 injuries, including 2 serious injuries, 1 person with more severe injuries, and 5 with minor injuries.
The driver responsible for the accident, Mr. Liu, a 47-year-old male, has been brought under control. Preliminary investigations reveal that Mr. Liu is a driver for a car rental company in Changsha. The video footage from the car’s dashcam Xiang ADH7367 showed that while waiting for the green light, he turned to clean up items in the back seat, causing the vehicle to lose control.
