Canada: Ukraine Can Use Canadian Weapons Inside Russian Territory

The Canadian Department of National Defense has stated that Ukraine can use Canadian tanks and missiles when conducting military operations within Russian territory.

According to Canadian Department of National Defense spokesperson Andrée-Anne Poulin, the military equipment donated by Canada to Ukraine does not have geographical restrictions.

Poulin said in a statement to the media, “The Ukrainian people know best how to defend their homeland, and we are committed to supporting their capabilities.”

“Canada firmly supports Ukraine’s right to self-defense against Russia’s illegal and unreasonable war, which is why we have pledged over $40 billion in military assistance to Ukraine,” she said.

Kyiv has reported that the Ukrainian military is slowly advancing in Russia’s Kursk region, having already taken control of over 1,150 square kilometers of territory.

This unexpected assault by Ukraine has been ongoing for over a week. In order to prevent further penetration by the Ukrainian forces, Russia has been forced to withdraw some troops from within Ukraine to bolster domestic defense.

Poulin stated that Canada will continue to collaborate with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, providing them with necessary equipment.

Since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, Canada has committed to providing $45 billion in military aid to Ukraine, promising assistance until 2029.

To date, Canada has already supplied $33 million worth of air defense equipment, including air defense missiles like the AMRAAMS, AIM-9, AIM-7, as well as M-777 howitzers, 8 Leopard tanks, 200 armored vehicles, and more.

The United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany have also expressed their support for Ukraine’s ability to use its weapons on Russian territory for defensive purposes.

Markus Faber, chairman of the German Parliament’s Defense Committee, stated: “Our military assistance to Ukraine is the best investment in our security. It reduces Russia’s potential threat daily and prevents Ukrainian civilians from becoming refugees.”

Britain has also affirmed that, besides the Storm Shadow long-range cruise missile, other weapons donated to Ukraine can be used within Russian territory.

A spokesperson for the British Ministry of Defense stated that Ukraine has a “clear right to self-defense against Russia’s illegal aggression,” and that “this does not exclude operations within Russian territory.”

The British Ministry of Defense spokesperson further noted, “We have made it clear during the donation process that the use of the equipment must comply with international law.”
