California Corn Maze, Twice Voted World’s Largest, Now Open to the Public

In California, USA, there is a giant cornfield maze that has been recognized twice by the Guinness World Records as the largest cornfield maze in the world. During the fall season, the maze at the “Cool Patch Pumpkins” farm is open to visitors from around the globe.

Located alongside Interstate 80 in northern California, the maze covers over 40 acres and is a cornfield maze attached to a pumpkin farm. “Cool Patch Pumpkins” was certified as the largest cornfield maze globally by the Guinness World Records in 2007 and 2014, but later surpassed by other mazes.

Visitors exploring this massive cornfield maze typically spend at least 45 minutes to successfully find their way out. The maze features five different bridges for visitors to cross over cornstalks.

Notable for its intricately designed patterns visible from the air, this year’s maze honors farmers with a farmer-themed design. Previous maze designs included large murals to commemorate veterans and first responders.

Owner Taylor Cooley describes the experience in the maze as both exciting and perplexing, as it disrupts the usual GPS-guided and signposted navigation, leaving visitors disoriented and lost in a captivating way.

Cooley mentions that the maze is handcrafted, aimed at conveying fun and excitement through the route’s construction. Visitors like Ryan Moore from Hawaii joke about spending a day lost in the maze due to their lack of direction sense, showing appreciation for the experience.

Another California visitor humorously remarks about not worrying about getting lost in the maze because they can eat the corn to avoid starvation.

Apart from the maze, “Cool Patch Pumpkins” also offers a corn bath for children, filled with 150,000 pounds of dried corn kernels, providing a unique autumn experience.

The farm is open to visitors from now until Halloween, showcasing an immersive and engaging agricultural experience amidst the cornfields.

While some may initially underestimate the maze’s complexity, visitors often find themselves lost for hours, some even needing to seek emergency assistance.

According to the Guinness World Records, the largest cornfield maze globally is located in La Pocatiere, Quebec, Canada, spanning 65.8 acres and constructed by local resident Luc Pelletier.

Pelletier personally built the maze to showcase his region, gaining official recognition by the Guinness World Records in October 2022.
