Brooklyn 8th Avenue Street Fair Kicks Off with Elected Officials Celebrating the New Year

In order to welcome the Chinese New Year, the bustling Brooklyn Business Association (BBA) held the “Celebrating the Lunar New Year, Wishing Prosperity on 8th Avenue Neighborhood Festival” on February 1st along 8th Avenue. The event attracted a large number of elected officials, police representatives, and community members to join together in celebrating the most important traditional Chinese festival.

The event took place from 10 am to 3 pm between 50th and 60th Streets on 8th Avenue, with a variety of performances including dragon and lion dances, waist drum performances, children’s dances, and street dance shows, creating a lively atmosphere. The waist drum performance by the Red Sunset Dance Team kicked off the event, followed by the ceremonial playing of the American national anthem by the city police honor guard. Fast-paced rhythms, martial arts demonstrations, and lion dances took turns on stage, elevating the excitement and immersing 8th Avenue in a festive ambiance.

Many elected officials and community leaders were in attendance, including State Senator Chen Xueli, State Assemblyman Zheng Yongjia, Brooklyn Republican Club Chairman Richard Barsamian, Brooklyn Conservative Party Club Chairman Frances Vella-Marrone, Conservative Party Executive Director Di Zhongqi, Chief of Staff to State Assemblyman Colton William Colton, and City Council candidate Ye Lingxia, who all came together to extend their New Year blessings to the Chinese community.
