Bronze Prize Winner of the Competition: Passionate about Chinese Art Songs, Thanks NTD

August 31st, Adriana Da from Canada won the bronze prize at the 10th Annual NTD Television “World Chinese Vocal Contest”. Adriana’s singing style is natural, light, and lively, which captivated the audience. After receiving the award, she shared her experience and growth on the vocal path.

Adriana Da expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported her and thanked NTD Television for providing this opportunity. The support from friends gave her enormous strength during the competition and taught her a lot. She mentioned that everyone was friendly and passionate about vocal music, and she felt the energy could be transmitted among artists.

At the age of 11, Adriana went to study in Canada and is currently a fourth-year student majoring in music. It was in her sophomore year of high school when she coincidentally listened to classical music on YouTube and considered it a treasure. She then delved into classical vocal singing, believing that classical music could be beautifully showcased in vocal artistry.

Adriana greatly appreciates the tonality presented in vocal singing. She explained that each singer has a unique timbre, given at birth. When a person brings out their voice supported by breath, the color produced is incomparably beautiful in her opinion.

She emphasized that achieving success in vocal music requires diligent practice in different aspects such as language, breath control, and mindset. Singers also need to incorporate elements of performance, especially in operatic singing where they embody different characters.

Adriana practices daily to ensure a natural and smooth performance, focusing on technical prowess, music interpretation, and character immersion. She stresses the importance of immersing oneself in the nuances of each piece, practicing diligently every single day.

During performances, Adriana employs her imagination to visualize scenes related to the songs she sings, like bees, butterflies, or waves. She believes that imagination is crucial in artistic expression.

Due to her love for Chinese art songs, Adriana is grateful for the opportunity to sing Chinese art songs in the vocal competitions. She finds it inspiring as a Chinese person to showcase this unique aspect.

According to Adriana, language embodies a country’s culture and history, making it more than just a communication tool. She believes that songs should consider both market and audience acceptance, which was evident in the positive feedback she received for her Chinese song performances.

Adriana expressed that audience resonance and emotional connection are more significant than competition results. As an artist, she finds encouragement in touching people’s hearts through her performances.

She cherishes the floral embellishments and the natural descriptions in songs, such as a Xinjiang folk song, which portrays the beauty of Xinjiang’s landscapes and people’s aspirations for beauty and harmony.
In the finals, Adriana sang the classical poem “Red Bean Song” from “Dream of the Red Chamber,” showcasing a lyrical and melancholic style. She was deeply moved by the yearning and sorrow conveyed in the song, imagining it as a tribute to a lost loved one. The song resonated with universal themes of human longing and reminiscence.

Adriana’s genuine passion for the song enabled her to deliver a captivating performance, allowing her to truly enjoy singing on stage and connecting with the audience.
