British kitten escapes twice, ends up in a brewery 53 kilometers away

In Lincolnshire, England, a cat named Peanut recently escaped from its owners’ home twice, both times heading to a brewery located 33 miles (53 kilometers) away, leaving everyone puzzled.

According to the UK’s Daily Mail, Peanut, a one-year-old tabby cat, lives in North Hykeham, Lincolnshire, with its owners, 24-year-old Sam Bhamra and 25-year-old Charley Rawlings.

Peanut went missing at the end of June, which had never happened before. It then showed up on July 9 at the Castle Rock Brewery pub in Nottingham.

Over the next three weeks, the brewery staff tried to locate Peanut’s owners through social media but without success. Meanwhile, Bhamra and Rawlings searched everywhere for Peanut but heard nothing.

The brewery staff eventually took Peanut to a veterinarian to check for an implanted microchip. The vet found the chip and contacted Peanut’s owners based on the information stored on it.

Rawlings said, “When the vet called, we thought they were going to tell us Peanut was dead, but we found out he was safe and sound. We couldn’t believe it.”

The couple speculated that Peanut may have hopped onto a truck and ended up at the brewery 53 kilometers away.

After bringing Peanut back home, the couple put a collar with a name tag on him, but he quickly tore it off and left it on their bed.

Rawlings said Peanut made it clear that he wouldn’t wear the collar and then went out for a stroll. By August 27, he had gone missing again, and the couple suspected he had returned to the brewery.

Sure enough, brewery staff called on August 29 to say Peanut was back. They speculated that this time he might have walked there.

The Castle Rock Brewery posted on Facebook that Peanut had returned to the brewery unexpectedly. They managed to reunite him with his owners and expressed hope that this time he would stay at home. However, they were very happy to see him again!

Rawlings, who works at a hospital, told the BBC that she believes Peanut walked to the brewery this time. “He’s definitely a mischievous tomcat and knows exactly what he’s doing.”

Jessica Collins, the manager of Castle Rock Brewery, described Peanut as a cute little cat with a big voice. They nicknamed him “Screech,” named after one of their beers because people always hear his voice before seeing him.

Collins mentioned that Peanut likely walked along the train tracks to reach the brewery, and he seemed to know his way. They welcome his return anytime but still worry about him.
