Breaking News: Tsai Ing-wen’s New Government Announces Third Cabinet Lineup

The President-elect of the Republic of China, Lai Ching-te, and the Vice President-elect, Hsiao Mei-chin, are set to be inaugurated on May 20th. Following the announcements of the first and second waves of cabinet appointments on the 10th and 12th, respectively, today (the 16th), the Prime Minister-elect, Cho Jung-tae, held a press conference to unveil the third wave of new cabinet members.

Prime Minister-elect Cho Jung-tae, accompanied by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan, Gong Ming-hsin, convened a press conference at 10 a.m. today to announce the cabinet’s third wave of appointments. The list includes the Minister of Economic Affairs to be held by Guo Zhi-hui, the Chairman of the Chongyue Group, the Minister of Digital Development to be taken over by Huang Yan-nan, a special researcher at the Information Security Center of the Institute of Information Technology Innovation at the Academia Sinica, the Chairman of the National Science Council to be assumed by Wu Cheng-wen, the President of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, the Chairman of the National Development Council to be held by Liu Jing-ching, the former chairman of ZC Innovations Corporation, the Chairman of the Financial Supervisory Commission to be taken over by Peng Jin-lung, the Vice Dean of the College of Commerce at National Chengchi University, and the Chairman of the Public Construction Commission to be assumed by Chen Jin-de, the former chairman of CPC Corporation, Taiwan.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China, Wu Zhao-xie, stated on the 15th that it is estimated that more than 40 groups from foreign countries, including heads of state from allied nations, totaling over 400 foreign dignitaries, will come to Taiwan to attend the inauguration ceremony of the President and Vice President on May 20th.

Previously, the first wave of cabinet appointments by Lai Ching-te was announced on the 10th, with former Democratic Progressive Party chairman Cho Jung-tae and Chairwoman of the Green Platform Foundation Zheng Li-jun designated as Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister respectively, Gong Ming-hsin as the Executive Yuan Secretary-General, and Chen Shi-kai, a member of the Democratic Progressive Party Central Standing Committee, as the Executive Yuan spokesperson.

On the 12th, Cho Jung-tae announced the second wave of cabinet appointments, with former legislator Liu Shih-fang appointed as Minister of the Interior, the current Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan, Li Meng-yan, taking over as Minister of Transportation, Taipei District Prosecutor Zheng Ming-chien appointed as Minister of Justice, Chung Ying-yao, the President of National Sun Yat-sen University, assuming the role of Minister of Education, and well-known author Little Wild (Li Yuan) serving as Minister of Culture.

The Democratic Progressive Party held a public opinion press conference on the 11th, where the DPP caucus secretary-general Wu Si-yao mentioned that there will likely be around 5 waves of cabinet appointments before and after the formation of the new cabinet.
