The 10th World Chinese Vocal Art Competition, organized by NTD Television, kicked off at the Merkin Hall of Kaufman Music Center in Manhattan, New York on August 29, 2025. Dozens of talented contestants from around the world took the stage to showcase their vocal skills in this three-day event.
This competition is part of the NTD International Cultural and Arts Series, aiming to promote the traditional art of bel canto singing by performing a wide range of Western and Chinese songs, emphasizing purity, goodness, and beauty in vocal arts.
One of the highlights of this competition is that participants are required not only to perform classic arias from world-renowned operas but also to present at least one Chinese art song, showcasing the beauty of the Chinese language and culture on the international stage.
On the final day of the competition, before the grand finale on August 31st, internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade will conduct a master class for some of the contestants who have advanced to the next stage.
Von Stade, praised as one of the most outstanding lyric mezzo-sopranos of the 20th century, has had a musical career spanning over fifty years. She has performed at prestigious venues such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Salzburg Festival in Austria, and the Paris Opera, gaining fame for her interpretations of works by Mozart and Rossini. Her recordings have won Grammy Awards and received multiple nominations. Additionally, she has twice been honored with the Grand Prix du Disque, one of the highest accolades in the French music industry.
The semi-finals, finals, and award ceremony of the 10th World Chinese Vocal Art Competition will be open for live audience viewing, with the finals and award ceremony being broadcast globally via the internet.
