Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky, was struck by a shooting incident on Tuesday, December 9th. Authorities reported that the incident resulted in one fatality and one person in critical condition. The suspect has been detained.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced the news on the social media platform X on Tuesday. He stated that the shooting incident left two individuals in critical condition, with one tragically succumbing to their injuries. Law enforcement officers have arrived at the scene.
The shooting incident appears to be an isolated case, with one suspect in custody and no ongoing threat.
The Governor also emphasized that there is no place for violence, neither in Kentucky nor in the United States. He urged prayers for the affected families, the students of Kentucky State University, and for a world where such events do not occur. He expressed gratitude to the courageous law enforcement officers for swiftly taking action to protect the public.
Authorities have sealed off the campus. An official source informed ABC that preliminary information suggests the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute rather than a random act of violence.
Assistant Chief Scott Tracy of the Frankfort Police Department told CNN affiliate WDRB that the shooting incident took place around 3:35 PM on Tuesday.
Officials from Kentucky State University stated that they are still “collecting accurate and complete information” before issuing an official statement.
Founded in 1886, Kentucky State University is a historically Black college. According to its official website, the university has over 2,200 students and 450 faculty members.
