A tragic incident unfolded at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday morning, January 22nd, with the Metropolitan Police Department confirming that a 17-year-old gunman fatally shot a female student before taking his own life.

The shooter reportedly opened fire in the school cafeteria, targeting other students. Don Aaron, a spokesperson for the Nashville Police Department, disclosed during a press conference that two additional individuals were injured in the shooting at Antioch High School and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Authorities stated that around 11 a.m. local time on Wednesday, the gunman turned the weapon on himself following the shooting incident.

“Due to the gunfire incident within the school building, Antioch High School has been placed on lockdown. Metropolitan police are on-site. The gunman no longer poses a threat,” a statement from the school district read.

“We will gather students in the auditorium and provide reunification information as soon as possible,” the statement added.

John Howser, a spokesperson for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, confirmed that the shooting at Antioch High School on Wednesday resulted in one fatality. Howser further mentioned that two more individuals were transported to the hospital with injuries.
