Taipei District Court Judge issued a ruling at around 3 am on the 2nd, denying bail for Ko Wen-je, the former mayor of Taipei City, while former Taipei City Vice Mayor, Peng Chin-sheng, is detained and prohibited from meeting due to the possibility of collusion.
According to a report by the Taiwanese newspaper Liberty Times, on the evening of September 1st local time, Taipei District Court held a hearing on whether to detain and prohibit visits for former Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je and Peng Chin-sheng on corruption charges. Ko Wen-je was questioned for 3 hours and the hearing ended at 11 pm late at night. 15 minutes later, the court began questioning Peng Chin-sheng, and it concluded at 12:43 am on the 2nd.
The judge presiding over the case, Chu Chia-yi, stated that a ruling would be made at 3 am to decide whether the two individuals should be taken to a detention center for pre-trial detention or be released on bail.
On August 30, Taiwan’s anti-corruption officials investigated the Jinghua City case and had Ko Wen-je and others summoned as defendants. Ko Wen-je was arrested for attempting to leave during a nighttime interrogation and his bail request was rejected after a hearing. The prosecutor held another investigation session on the 31st afternoon to request detention and prohibition of meetings for Ko Wen-je from the court.
