Breaking News: Car Crashes Into Crowd at Liverpool Premier League Champions Parade.

On Monday (May 26), the police in Liverpool, northern England, announced that a man has been arrested following a car incident where pedestrians were hit.

Merseyside Police stated on social media platform X: “We are currently dealing with a report of an RTC (Road Traffic Collision) in Liverpool city center.”

“Just after 6 p.m. today, we received a report that a car had collided with several pedestrians on Water Street. The car stopped at the scene, and one man has been detained,” the statement added.

According to a video circulating on social media X, at the time, fans of the Liverpool team were holding a celebratory trophy parade for winning the Premier League championship when a car suddenly drove into the crowd. Some pedestrians were struck by the car, but the number of injuries and their severity is currently unknown.

Prior to this incident, thousands of Liverpool fans had gathered in the city center to watch the Premier League trophy parade to celebrate their victory. On Sunday (25th), Liverpool played a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at home in the final round of the 2024-2025 English Premier League season, securing the Premier League championship for this season.

An eyewitness to the vehicle hitting pedestrians told GB News, “A large number of police and ambulances rushed in after the incident, the scene was too frightening.”

A BBC reporter on the scene reported seeing at least three injured individuals being taken away, with a large number of police and emergency personnel rushing to the scene. An air ambulance has landed in the area of the incident, and a large number of police have set up cordons nearby.

According to the PA news agency, Natasha Rinaldi was watching the Liverpool football club parade in a friend’s living room at the time.

“The noise was too loud. People sounded desperate. Then we looked out the window and saw that the car had already rolled over people,” she said. “We only heard screams and cries of distress.”

“Some of my friends were there at the time, and the car was very close to them. The scene was too horrible, no one ever thought something like this would happen,” she added.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the incident in Liverpool as “shocking” and said, “I stand with all those injured or affected.”

“I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking event,” he added.

Starmer stated that he is continuously monitoring the latest developments in the incident.

The Liverpool City Council stated that they are in “contact” with the Merseyside Police following the report.
