On September 19, 2024, the 9th NTD World Chinese Vocal Competition kicked off at the Merkin Hall of Kaufman Music Center in Manhattan, New York. After an afternoon of preliminary rounds, 14 contestants from Asia, Europe, and America stood out and advanced to the semi-finals.

Male group: Huang Junwen (Malaysia), Zhang Junkai (United States), Ji Chucheng (United States), Zheng Shaofeng (United States).
Female group: Mika Hale (United States), Li Le (Germany), Liu Fengzhen (China), Li Zhien (South Korea), Huang Jiayi (United States), Zhang Chunqing (Germany), Ruan Mingzhu (Vietnam), Zhang Yuchuan (Canada), Jiang Xiao (China), Wang Lanlan (United States).
The NTD Vocal Competition is one of the series of cultural competitions organized by NTD Television. The purpose of the competition is to promote the pure, virtuous, and beautiful traditional vocal art and help talented Chinese vocalists from around the world step onto the global stage.
The NTD Vocal Competition is distinct from other similar vocal competitions around the world, as it requires contestants to sing Chinese songs using a voice close to the traditional Italian vocal technique. The competition’s repertoire also calls for traditional classic pieces.
The semi-finals and finals will be open to the public, promising an exciting event.
